‘Beautiful Birches’ (non-charted) uses paper, wooden dowels; threads, novelty fibers, sheer and opaque fabrics, fusible web, silk ribbons, veloura, Brazilian threads, and pearl cottons to create a light source, depth and perspective and cast shadows in a landscape. Stitches taught include outline, whipped outline, couching, loop, Japanese leaf, and whipped back-stitch, as well as working with silk ribbons and paper. ‘Beautiful Birches’ contains unique techniques, and gives the student opportunities for placement of stitches, colors, and media.

Student will Supply:
10” x 12” stretcher bars and tacks to mount the piece | small, very sharp scissors | paper scissors | tweezers | glue stick (not blue) | a variety of sharp and blunt needles including: #7 or #8 crewel needle, #22 and #18 chenille needle, #22 tapestry | scotch tape | sharpened pencil | bag or pillowcase to carry the work in progress | a ‘C’ clamp or other means of attaching the working frame to a table.
