203 - Tropical Jazz

Tropical Jazz is a collage of colors, textures, and patterns that combine to create the imagery of a
tropical paradise. Learn a new marker technique for adding color and depth to the canvas, and
then stitch a few new openwork patterns with Sea Grass and Soy Luster, to add even more
interest. Braids stitched with sequins, Stef Francis’ hand-dyed slubbed silk and crinkled rayon,
and several Valdani cottons are all included here with interesting and unique results. Resin and
other beads are scattered throughout the design and there will be a demo in class on
painting the resin beads. You will have the option to try the technique in class, but hand
painted beads are included in your kit. The canvas comes to you with the design already
outlined and the edges taped and ready for stitching.

The picture shows one option of using the finished piece as an embellishment on a tote bag.

Design Size: 8” X 13”

Ground Fabric: 18 count eggshell mono canvas with edges taped and the design drawn on the canvas

Student will Supply:

Stretcher Bar - 1 pair each 13” and 18” bars | Tacks or stapler | Frame and/or frame weights | Light (or magnifying light), if desired | Laying tool of choice for thread stitching | Beeswax or Thread Heaven | PLUS, the usual stitching supplies | Needles are included in the kit
